Vulcan Street Plant, The first hydroelectric plant, was built in 1882 near Appleton, WI. The plant experienced many problems during its first years of operation, mainly concerning the regulation of electricity. However, the plant was a success, and led to the installation of a hydroelectric power regulation at the Niagara Falls Power Plant, spearheaded by Nikola Tesla, in 1896. The Hoover Dam in Arizona-Nevada, the Grand Coulee Dam in Washington and the Central Valley Project in California followed in the next ten years.
