How is water used to remove pollutants from power plant exhaust?

There are a few methods for removing pollutants from power plant exhaust—some of which are known as wet scrubbers. Particulate wet scrubbers use “droplet inertia as the fundamental force to transfer particles from the gas stream to the liquid stream,”* which means they force particle-laden air into contact with liquid so as to transfer the particles from the gas stream to the liquid stream. There are many types of particle wet scrubbers, all of which are complicated machines utilizing nozzles, jets, streams, tanks, coolers, clarifiers, pumps, etc. to collect pollutants and recirculate the water used to impact them.
