According to a report delivered by the EPA in March of this year, annual water losses in the United States are estimated between $11 and 22 billion. The root cause of this massive loss is attributed to inefficiency at the water treatment level. There are 53,000 community water systems in the country, 83% of which are classified as small water suppliers. In the report, the EPA states that it found “in many regions of the country, water accountability and efficiency is either not mandated, or when mandated, not enforced.”
