Is zircon is same as •Zirconium ?
It’s used mainly in industrial settings, as it is very hardy and very resistant to corrosion, which makes it good for things like lining furnaces. And yes, Zircon is the mineral, and Zirconium is the element.
The other answer gives some correct uses for zircon, but it is incorrect in saying that zircon and zirconium are the same. They are not. Zirconium is an element. Zircon is a mineral, zirconium silicate, ZrSiO4.
In addition to refractories (furnace linings) ceramics use significant quantities of zirconium.
