Is yogurt alive?

Good question MiltonWells.  It actually depends on the yogurt.  Some yogurt is heat treated to kill the bacteria cultures that it contains so as to extend shelf life or to reduce tartness.  Most yogurt is alive, though.  Some yogurts will actually tell you they are alive (and active) by using this label:

Generally, you can tell if a yogurt has live cultures in it whether it is labelled or not.  Most tangy yogurts like plain Greek or European types are full of the good bacteria that helps with digestion.  The less processed a yogurt is, the better the chances are that it will retain those natural benefits.
