The Department of Energy didn’t think so in 2008. The Yucca storage facility had a planned storage capacity of 77,000 tons of waste. In 2008 the DOE stated that either the site needed to be expanded or a second nuclear waste depository would need to be created. This of course is all based on estimates of future nuclear power use. Hopefully the U.S. will shift to other means of generating energy or lowering consumption levels.
