I would avoid buying dogs that are breed. But if it comes down to saving a dogs life in a shelter who might be put down, I would rather save the dog. Even if the dog creates an environmental detriment, it is still worth saving him from the suffering. This would be like not having a single child because of the environmental footprint that a child would create. To avoid owning a dog that is already in a shelter would be like killing animals just because they create methane and breath out CO2 in exchange for O2.
