Would our planet be better off if women used less make up?

I can think of two ways that the cosmetics industry harms the environment. First, many companies still test on animals. While animal rights activists have pressured these companies to stop, it is still an issue. Secondly, there are loopholes in federal law which “allow the cosmetics industry to put unlimited amounts of chemicals into personal care products without testing for health effects or adequate labeling requirements.” Make-up is definitely something that humans and our earth can live without, whether we like to admit it or not.

The chemicals in make up are certainly harmful to the environment: from the landfill to the sink, a lot of waste is being generated by make up. Men also use a lot of products that have these chemicals which add to environmental harm. Also, many of these chemicals are linked to cancer, and many are still – unfortunately – tested on animals. We certainly need to look at more eco friendly and healthy alternatives for our personal grooming!
