Would the oil companies be OK without government subsidies?

Yes oil companies are some of the most profitable in the world. In fact it is often argued that it is oil and natural gas companies that subsidize the government, “at a rate of $95 million a day.” Oil and gas lobbyists maintain that it is a shared interest that government offer tax breaks and contribute, because a healthy oil/gas company will payoff for the government and create jobs.
