Would it take more energy to power the United States with renewable energy than it would with non renewable sources?

The amount of energy that is required to power the United States is the same regardless of where it comes from. Producing all our energy from renewable sources doesn’t somehow, randomly create a boost in the amount of power the US needs. The main logistically differences between renewable energy and non-renewable energy, beside the environmental impacts, is the relative cost of producing energy; that is, currently, renewable energy is more expensive than non-renewable energy.
