They’d probably need to eat less, making it easier to find enough food to survive, but obviously their current size has been the most beneficial evolutionarily or they would have died out a long time ago.
Smaller bodies lose heat at a faster rate than bigger bodies, and they also typically have higher rates of metabolism. Smaller bodies also will have less fat reserves in comparison to larger animals. All of these differences could affect the polar bear’s ability to survive.
