Definitely not. It doesn’t follow the ‘pack it in, pack it out’ mantra of hikers. If there were bathrooms put in it would degrade the trail and change the landscape. Hiking is about getting away from the man made items, bathrooms would ruin that.
I don’t see any reason to put bathrooms on trails. Humans are perfectly capable of surviving in the wilderness without bathrooms. Bathrooms only serve to waste water, paper, and electricity which are all valuable resources. In addition to that, the implementation of bathrooms would be a significant disruption to nature.
Considering too many people don’t pack it in, pack it out, I think there is an argument to be made for composting toilets. They adhere to the conservation and preservation philosophy and can be an educational tool. Why not turn the basic need to relieve ourselves into an opportunity to learn about alternative methods of disposal?
