Would hybrids be a lot more efficient if they were more basic?

I believe so. But also hybrids may be efficient in terms of mpg, but are much more detrimental to the environment.

“The Toyota Prius has become the flagship car for those in our society so environmentally conscious that they are willing to spend a premium to show the world how much they care. Unfortunately for them, their ultimate ‘green car’ is the source of some of the worst pollution in North America; it takes more combined energy per Prius to produce than a Hummer.”

Although it may appear to be good for the environment, due to branding, the prius is actually terrible. Don’t ever believe what you see in marketing.
