Would the environment benefit significantly if postal junk mail was banned?

    While nikonfotobug is completely right, let me throw out some specifics! According to ecocycle.org, 41.5 billion pieces of junk mail, i.e., mail advertisements, were sent out in 2005! 100 million trees were used in the production of this junk mail. This site offers ways in which to remove yourself from mailing lists.

    Not just less paper, but less fuel too! Mail trucks and airplanes that aren’t as weighed down by junk mail will use less fuel to transport the mail around the country.
