1) If being without the US meant that the environment was also without any industrialized nation, then YES. But otherwise, not really. The US contributes to a lot of manufacturing and industrial pollution, but our population is very small as far as world powers go. China and India both have well over 1 billion people, and the US only has 340 million. None of the 10 most polluted places in the world are in the US; we’re a relatively young country with more strict regulations about that sort of thing (even though sometimes it doesn’t seem like we have many laws that protect the environment).
