would being a vegetarian help me be more sustainable?

Yes, in my opinion you really cannot consider yourself an environmentalist if you are not a vegetarian. The meat industry is one of the largest polluters in the world. For example, one hog processing center in Utah produces more water pollution than the city of Los Angeles in one year. The process of raising, transporting and slaugherting animals for food, is not only cruel in the eyes of animal lovers, but a main figure in the overall pollution problem.

Absolutely.  It is more energy efficient, saves land, reduces greenhouse gases, and is overall healthier for not only the body, but for the mind and the spirit.
