Redwood trees are sequoia trees. There are two types of redwoods, the coastal redwood, which grow very tall (Sequoia sempervirens) and the sierran redwoods, or giant sequoias, that grow to have a vergy large circumfrance (Sequoiadendron giganteum).
Both woods are quite resistent to decay but is not the greatest for construction purposes.
Redwood is just another name for sequoia trees, though it could be argued that Coastal Redwoods are bigger by height. They are all enormous trees that bear red bark, hence the name. Since these trees are protected in national parks, no one can simply cut one down and look at the inner wood; also, cutting one down would be more trouble than it would be worth because of the tree’s size. Sequoias (or Redwoods) are the biggest trees on Earth, and many have lived for a very long time. In fact, these huge trees are the largest living things on Earth.
