Is the wind speed similar in tornadoes and hurricanes?

The windspeeds are similar, with tornadoes being from 40 – 110 mph and a hurrican being able to reach 140 mph. Hurricanes lose their speed as they hit land though, and actually is not considered a hurricane, but a tropical storm, until it reaches about 56 mph.
