Wind energy is known for having very high initial capital costs for construction; average costs of commercial-scale wind turbines in 2007 was $1.2 to $2.6 million each. After construction, the marginal cost of increased production is very low. Overall, the cost per unit of energy (in 2006) of wind power was a couple of dollars more than coal or natural gas.
