Apparently Tesla electric car batteries can be used as a power source for off-grid backup, storing power from solar panels and the like, once they stop being useful as car batteries. After that they can be shipped back to Tesla, which takes the batteries apart to reuse the metals within that can be reused, such as aluminum, nickel, tin, cobalt and copper. Nissan will soon have a similar system up to reuse its own electric car batteries in the same way.
