Will worms eat the roots of my plants in a flower bed?

Based on this gardener’s experience, it looks like there are worms that eat the roots of plants and can cause significant damage.  On the other hand, earthworms are very beneficial to gardens because they till the soil so that water and air can pass more easily through it.  Their excrement is also helpful for plant growth.

Definitely yes if the worms you mean are nematodes (soil) but that is your soil is infested with these soil nematodes. It is worthy to note that not all soil nematodes are harmful to the roots of crops but thousands of them like Meloidegyne, Trchodorus, Tylenchulus are very destructive to plant roots.
