There are many fuel efficient cars that you can get a tax credit for when purchasing. There are some hybrid gas/electric cars, a few diesel, and some alternative fuel vehicles (vehicles that run off any liquid that is 85% methanol by volume) that qualify for the tax credits. There are supposedly soon going to be electric cars eligible as well. Some cars have already run out of the specified timeline when they were available for tax credit, like the Toyota Prius, but there are lots of other cars.
