There is a great deal of interest currently about alternative fuels for airplanes and biofuel is one of the options being studied. However, to say all of our airplanes will use biofuel is a stretch. As the research is just now beginning to realize potential, manufacturing is still years away. In the meantime, other alternatives are being researched as well, which means other fuels will most likely be utilized in airplanes in addition to the possibility of biofuel (similar to research in the automotive industry as well). Diversity of fuel sources is a good idea, however, as dependency on a single source can cause problems. In addition, the massive amount of planes in service now that are not designed to utilize biofuel would most likely remain in commission for years to come due to the huge investment in each plane.
