Yes. Three cylinder engines have been used in cars since at least the 1960s, and are attractive to environmentalists because they use gasoline more efficiently than heavier engines. The trade off is that bigger engines can produce more power and reach higher speeds, so most three cylinder engines today are used in hybrid cars to supplement the electric motor.
