Solar shingles haven’t been around long enough for people to know if they tend to outlast conventional roofing material, but manufacturers say solar shingles are at least as durable as regular ones. They can withstand up to 80 mph wind loads. Also, most solar shingles come with a manufacturer backed warranty of at least 4 or 5 years, which usually predicts the shingles will have an overall lifetime of at least 20 years.
Thin film, which has replaced solar shingles can be installed on your roof easily because of its easy peel and stick application. The only bad thing is you can’t take it off and move it to another home, but they won’t be blown off like some typical solar panels have the tendency to do, when there are wind gusts of more than 150-180 mph winds. But the only way they will come off is if you replace your roof (they have a longer life span then other types of solar panels).
