Maybe. Especially with the current economy, cheaper is generally better for people! I think it would also make a difference to place more media attention on locally grown food and why it is a better choice for you and for the environment. Once people understand that, they will be more likely to buy it.
Yes, more than local the sales of local goods would increase if the prices dropped. However, because of economies of scale, commercial brands will almost always have the advantage of lower prices to local goods. The difference which is key to many is the difference in quality–local food is almost always better.
