According to the American Cancer Society, it’s highly unlikely. Most of the idea that parabens cause cancer is linked to a 2004 study where researchers found parabens in breast cancer tumors. The media has extrapolated this study to say that parabens caused or contributed to the cancer’s development. There’s been no study that has said parabens are indeed carcinogenic. Parabens do, however, have weak estrogen-like properties but are not sufficiently strong to have a big effect on cancer.
