Will the new electric motorcycles be as fast and handle as good as the gas powered ones?

It seems that they are close, but not there yet. At the inaugural TTxGP motorcycle green grand prix on the Isle of Man, an electric bike won with a time of 25 minutes and 53 seconds around the 37.7-mile course. Wired Magazine reports that the average gasoline 600cc bike could do it in a little over 18 minutes. But how fast are you riding? Improvements in speed will come, but it seems like the average rider won’t need more than the electric bikes can offer.
Zero Motorcycles, one of the leaders of the electric bike producers, reports: “Our first production motorcycle, the Zero X, accelerates from 0-30 in under 2 seconds. It delivers over 50 ft/lbs of torque and similar performance to a 250cc gas powered off-road motorcycle. Our street motorcycles build off of this technology and are designed to aggressively take on any urban environment. Because Zero Motorcycles’ designs are so amazingly light, the power-to-weight ratio in each motorcycle is unsurpassed by anything else on the market.” (http://www.zeromotorcycles.com)
