The Copenhagen meeting was the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It happens each year and one year (the year that the Kyoto Protocol was ratified) it happened twice. The Copenhagen COP was particularly important, and thus drew a heightened level of international attention, because it marked the last year (prior to the expiration of the Kyoto Protocol) to either renew the existing Protocol or come up with a new agreement in its place. This year’s COP will take place in Mexico.
