Will green cars ever be able to make a difference if they are not cheap enough?

This depends on a few things, in big part on the government involvement. Rebates could lower the purchase cost, carbon dioxide emissions tax would favor green cars, requirements on fuel efficiency would eliminate less environment-friendly cars. Increased awareness of and concern over environmental issues would lead more people to buy green cars. Rising oil prices, which are just beyond the horizon, will make green cars as cheap or cheaper than gas guzzling ones.
