It has been demonstrated that the introduction of genetically modified crops have directly led to loss of biodiversity. The United Nations has estimated that 75 percent of genetic diversity in plants has been lost since 1900 due to the creation of genetically modified species. The production of GMO’s involves the reinforcement of genetic homogeneity and the development of monocultures, which contribute to this loss of genetic diversity.
