An estimated 50 million people worldwide will be driven from their homes as a result of rising sea levels, desertification, dried up aquifers, weather-induced flooding, and various other environmental changes, many of which are directly or indirectly caused by global warming.
While some refugees may eventually be able to return home and rebuild, permanent relocation is the only option for many. While gradual changes in global climate and ecosystems is normal, the process is accelerated by global warming, often resulting in immediate evacuation and abandonment of once thriving towns and cities.
