The Chevy Volt comes with it a tax credit of $7,500 and there is no longer a tax credit offered for the Toyota Prius. This is due to the fact that the tax credit was created to benefit the automaker and not the consumer, ultimately to assist car sales. So the first 250,000 Chevy Volts sold will give a tax break to consumers, with an incremental decrease every two quarters. Buying a Prius will no longer give the consumer a tax credit because their threshold for the number of cars has already been reached.
