will the carbon tax affect the United States standard of living?

Currently, there is no proposal for a carbon tax seriously moving forward at the US federal level. The climate bill currently being considered in Congress is not a carbon tax, but a cap-and-trade bill, which is supposed to decrease greenhouse emissions in the most economically efficient way possible. There is heated debate over whether a carbon tax would actually be more effective at curbing global warming than a cap-and-trade system, but cap-and-trade is what Congress is working on for now. The negative economic impacts of the cap-and-trade proposal have been shown to be minimal, and if passed into law the bill will actually create hundreds of jobs and new economic activity.
