Will bone last forever in the ground?

The breakdown of skeletal remains (bone diagenesis) occurs at a substantially slower rate than soft-tissue breakdown, but over time, bones will decay and the minerals will be returned to the soil.

Bones that are buried in areas with high moisture will decay at a faster rate. Water leaches out minerals from the bone, which contributes to bone disintegration.
