It already does. Most soybeans (more than 90%), for instance, are genetically modified (GM) as are certain strains of corn (88%) and other crops like cotton. Soybeans, even if you don’t eat tofu, are in many common foods as fillers or flavor. If you want to avoid GM foods, avoid processed foods as they often contain GM foods. Also try to buy foods with the organic label as they cannot contain GM materials. Otherwise, foods that have the non-GMO label do not have GM materials in them. The Center for Food Safety has a list of GM foods and more information about advocacy efforts to keep GM foods out of our food supply.
