Is wildlife trafficking a big business?

Legal trade in wildlife and wildlife products (excluding timber and fisheries) is about a $10 billion industry today.  This is up from a $3-4 billion dollar business in the late 1980’s.  Another $5-8 billion in illegal wildlife trade is estimated to occur every year as well.  Assuming that these statistics are accurate, it would mean wildlife trafficking is certainly a big business, making $15-18 billion a year.
