Why would you microwave old tires?

In 2007, a Texas man discovered that you can microwave a tire into reusable and separate parts. Using only $0.50 worth of electricity, one 14 inch tire becomes “1.2 gallons of diesel fuel, 7.5 pounds of carbon black, 50 cubic feet of combustible gas and 2 pounds of high-strength steel”. The key is to microwave it in a vacuum since tires contain metal parts. The same man also was able to discover that the same process works to convert river sludge to usable materials as well.
