China has passed Denmark, Germany, Spain and the United States in 2009 to become the world’s largest maker of wind turbines. They have passed the West too. Their efforts to dominate renewable energy technologies raise the prospect that the West may someday trade its dependence on oil from the Mideast for a reliance on solar panels, wind turbines and other gear manufactured in China. “Most of the energy equipment will carry a brass plate, ‘Made in China”. China’s wind, solar and biomass energy will represent 8 percent of its electricity generation capacity by 2020. After all, with China’s population, they the world’s largest market for power equipment.
