The oil industry filed a suit against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) claiming the EPA failed in adhering to the congress-mandated date to announce the new Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) for 2010. Every year at the end of November the EPA is supposed to announce what percent of biofuels should account for all sales of gasoline, increasing every year in an attempt to reduce US dependence on fossil fuels. The percentage for 2010 was not announced until the end of March, four months late. The court ruled however, with support from Growth Energy, in favor of the EPA. Their report asserts that the oil companies had plenty of time to meet the new Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) for the entire year.
