Mayor Bloomberg of New York City recently dropped the most important component of his proposal for green buildings in the city largely because of pressure from the building industry and landlord associations who opposed the measures. This is a blow not only to efforts to green one of America’s largest cities, but to prospects for the New York economy as well. Originally, it was predicted that Bloomberg’s green building plan would create 19,000 construction jobs. Now, however, fewer than 5,000 of those jobs will likely be created.
