Berkeley houses the Berkeley Institute of the Environment, which provides information about research and activities related to the environment at Berkeley. It also has the Cal Green Environment Team (CALGeT) which advocated and educates about green activities on campus.

Berkeley also has ongoing sustainability practices that make it one of the greenest campuses in the country.

UC Berkeley was graded by The Sierra Club which does an annual report card on green college campuses. Berkeley ranked number 8, and on a scale of 1 through 10 did not receive a 10 in any category The Sierra Club reviewed. They did, however, receive 9 points for their food, transportation, and efficiency. UC Berkeley also has the first entirely certified organic cafeteria in the US.
