It’s most likely because all green trends are increasing. As people are more eco conscious in life, it makes sense to continue to do so in death.
In addition to being environmentally more friendly than traditional burials, green burials can be performed at the fraction of the price, an incentive for anyone. Also, trends in Catholic and Christian churches show a leaning toward Earth friendly practices, highlighted by Pope Benedict’s speech last year encouraging environmental responsibility to promote global peace. Culturally, increasing attitudes describing us as being a part of the Earth instead of separate from it help make an easy psychological transition from permanent body preservation to natural decomposition.
Also, there are ‘conservation green burials’ in which organizations put the customer’s proceeds toward purchasing and preserving land, attracting nature lovers world-wide.
