The rains in Atlanta forced the closing of a Kellogg plant that produces Eggo waffles. However, there seems to be more to the story. The plant had closed down temporarily prior to the flood in order to investigate the finding of Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause serious infections, in samples of its waffles.
The shortage will last through mid 2010 due to problems at 2 bakeries. The atlanta one is experiencing flooding due to heavy rains in October. The equipment in the largest facility in Tennessee is undergoing repairs as well.
