Teflon is made from perfluorinated organic chemicals that some such as perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) which some experts claim to be hazardous for the human body. The concern is that these chemicals might “come loose” and make their way into the air which and gets into the human organism. Some negative drawbacks of PFOA is that there is no known environmental breakdown mechanism, it can effect the liver, kidney and plasma. On the other hand some companies claim that PFOA has no negative health effects. No extensive scientific study has yet to be conducted on the true effects of PFOA.
