Why is the sun hotter around the Mediterranean than in other places at the same latitude?

The sun isn’t hotter in the Mediterranean than anywhere else, Mediterranean climates are warmer than most other biomes due to geographic/climatic conditions. California is at 40N latitude, roughly the same as the Mediterranean and both have the same climate. They are very similar in their weather patterns and temperatures. New York City is also around the same latitude, but has a humid/subtropical climate under the K√∂ppen climate classification.

Latitude has a big influence on temperature, as the northernmost latitudes tend to be the coldest. Climate is also a major factor and needs to be considered. In the case of the Mediterranean, that area has one of the most pleasant climates on earth, and is an ideal climate for growing. It has nothing to do with the sun being hotter there.
