Why is the carbon cycle so important?

Right now, the biggest concern is that we are overpopulating the plant and at the same time we are ridding the world of plants and replacing these areas with cities.  Animals (including us) breathe in oxygen and release it as carbon dioxide, and plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen.  At the same time, we release a lot of carbon into the atmosphere as pollution from factories and machines.  Since this cycle is so unbalanced, our world now contains more carbon dioxide than what is best for a healthy atmosphere.
