Why is scar tissue so hard?

Scars form because the body is unable to regenerate new skin or tissue whenever a cut or injury occurs. Scar tissue is the fibrous material that forms the scar, and it is harder and thicker than other tissue because it has a limited blood supply, thus poor circulation. This also accounts for the dull color scars often have; good circulation provides color to your skin. Scar tissue can be softened over time, using certain dermatological treatments, but there should not be a concern if the tissue is hard when the scar first forms, as it is a natural part of the scarring process.
