Why is scar tissue so hard?

Not all scar tissue is hard. You are probably thinking of a keloid. A keloidal scar is one formed from either type III or type I collagen. It’s hard because of an overgrowth of the type III collagen. These scars vary in color from pink to dark brown. This kid of scarring can occur from ear piercing or acne or any other skin trauma. It is possible to remove them using corticosteriods or surgery.
