Farmed salmon is bad for the environment for a number of reasons. For one the close proximity of all the fish is a breeding ground for parasites, bacteria and viruses that can escape the salmon farm and infect the wild populations. Salmon farmers sometimes use drugs and pesticides to prevent diseases which not only gets into the rest of the ocean but into the people who eat the salmon. All the concentrated waste from the salmon farm just goes out to the rest of the ocean and can change the ecology of the area into a bottom up regulated environment. Farm salmon can escape and compete with wild salmon. Lastly it takes a good deal more resources to raise farm salmon than to catch wild salmon properly.
